The  Kyebi District Court presided over by her Lordship, Alice Afua Yirenkyi has remanded the six suspects who allegedly murdered a 55-year old teacher of the Asiakwa Salvation Army Basic School, George Bosompem at Asiakwa in the Eastern Region last week into prison custody to reappear on June 25, 2019.

According to police investigations, the suspects are not juvenile contrary to earlier reports in the media.

However, the lawyer for the suspects, Peter Nimo prayed the court to grant bail for two of the suspects since they were not around when the incident occurred.

Some of the teachers expressed their frustration to the media about how the incident has been handled so far.

Speaking at a press conference, the President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Mrs. Philipa Larsen commended the judge for dismissing the request by the defence lawyer to grant bail to two of the suspects.

She therefore appealed to the teachers within Asiakwa and its environs to call off their strike since the government has intervened.

She assured them of their safety in their various institutions.

The General Secretary of GNAT, David Ofori Acheampong, tasked the government to come up with policies which will help to safeguard the lives of teachers in the country.

He also lamented over the frequent interference of some parents whenever teachers discipline their wards for misbehaving.

This action according to him is doing more harm than good in the society.

Mr. Acheampong appealed to the government to dispatch security personnel into the various schools in the Asiakwa district to help protect the lives of teachers.
