AWA completes its first test flight to HO

Domestic carrier, Africa World Airline, AWA, has completed its first test flight to the Ho Airport in the Volta Region to commence commercial operations on the Accra-Ho air route.

AWA’s Embraer 145 aircraft landed safely at the airport yesterday with 36 passengers on board the 50 seater carrier as the first commercial flight to ply that air route.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa led an enthusiastic delegation from the Volta Regional Coordinating Council and the chiefs and people of Asogli to welcome officials of Africa World Airline, Ghana Airport Company Limited, and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority who were on board the flight.

The Chief Operating Officer of AWA, Captain Kwesi Oteng who piloted the flight said management will consider flying to other destinations from Ho depending on the response when they begin commercial operations.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa thanked the management of AWA and the Agbogbomefia of Asogli, TogbeAfede in particular for his role in ensuring that the Ho Airport becomes operational.

The Agbogbomefia of Asogli, Togbe Afede who is a Director of Africa World Airline noted that apart from serving as an air route, the Ho Airport will be a hub for training pilots and engineers as well as an Aircraft Maintenance Organization for aircraft repair works.

He encouraged residents to patronize domestic flights during travels to Accra to sustain the aviation industry in the region.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Airport Company Limited, Yaw Kwakwa and the Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Daniel Acquah said their outfits have recruited personnel to man the facility and installed equipment to make it fully functional.

The Over 25 million dollars Ho Airport project began in September 2015 and was completed and handed over to government nearly three years ago. It is expected to boost tourism and other economic activities in the Volta Region.
