The Member of Parliamant, (MP) for Bawku Central Mahama Ayariga has been granted a one hundred thousand self-recognizance bail in the case in which he and six others are standing trial.

Mr. Ayariga, and the six others pleaded not guilty to seven counts of charges.

The other six (6) have also been admitted to bail in the sum of fifty thousand cedis with two sureties each.

One of the sureties the court said  must be a resident of Accra since all six come from Bolga.

They have also been directed to deposit the passport at the court and notify the court in writing anytime they intend to travel.

The Court has however, dismissed preliminary objections challenging the qualification of the Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu and the charges against Member of parliament for Bawku Central and six others.

It  said, per statutes everything before it was properly done by the special prosecutors office and therefore claims that the Special Prosecutor does not have the mandate to prefer charges can not hold.

The court presided over by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe said until the Supreme Court determines otherwise, the Special Proeecutor is the Special Prosecutor.

According to the court, when charges are made, the particulars would have to show that there was a case to be answered and that the office of the Special Prosecutor  was specially established to deal with corruption cases.

The case has been adjourned to the 8th of next month for a case Management Conference.
