Residents of Abunyanya in the Nkwanta North District of the Oti Region are calling for justice following the deaths of two men in a clan-related attack.
The victims, identified as Uninkpel Balatob Gabuja and Tananje Tayon, were reportedly killed in the early hours of Sunday, February 1, 2026. Local sources say the attack was allegedly carried out by members of the Kpatatiib clan and their associates.
According to the Binajub clan, the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. when the assailants allegedly stormed the victims’ homes. The killings are said to have stemmed from a disagreement over a borehole project on their land a day earlier.
Tensions over the project reportedly escalated on 31 January, prompting intervention from both police and military personnel. Clan members say that after security forces left the area, warning signs of a potential attack emerged.
The following day, the attackers allegedly killed the two men, set fire to six houses, destroyed two motorbikes, and vandalized several retail shops.
The Binajub clan has condemned the killings, describing the victims as innocent and expressing frustration over the lack of arrests nearly two months after the incident.
Spokesperson Foster Kwasi Danna said the clan has petitioned the Oti Regional Police Command but claimed no significant action has been taken. The clan is now appealing to the Minister for the Interior and the Inspector-General of Police to intervene and ensure those responsible are prosecuted.
“We have confidence in Ghana’s justice system and expect fairness and accountability, regardless of who is involved,” Danna said.
The Binajub clan said it hopes justice will be served to bring closure to the affected families and restore peace in the community.
