A lifeless body has been found inside a commercial minibus, popularly known as a trotro, at Alajo in Accra following the devastating floods caused by Monday’s heavy rainfall.
The vehicle was discovered in a drain on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, after the floodwaters had receded. Residents who inspected the stranded trotro found the body inside and alerted the authorities.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been established, and officials are investigating how the victim became trapped inside the vehicle.
The latest discovery adds to the rising death toll from the floods, which submerged homes, businesses and major roads across several communities in the Greater Accra Region.
Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak said at least 12 people had died, while seven others remained missing following the floods.
He added that the disaster displaced 7,761 households and affected more than 38,000 people nationwide after hours of torrential rainfall overwhelmed drainage systems and inundated communities.
Emergency responders and disaster management officials are continuing search, rescue and recovery operations while assessing the full extent of the damage.
