Leaders of the #OccupyBoGProtest took to the streets and marched to the Bank of Ghana (BoG) premises to personally present their petition to Dr. Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

However, upon their arrival, they were met by the retired Director of Security of the BoG, as Dr. Addison was reportedly absent.

The Director explained that the Governor was currently attending an IMF meeting abroad.

This absence did not sit well with the protest leaders, who insisted that the demonstration would persist until Dr. Addison made himself available to accept their petition.

Mr Ato Forson, described the BoG Governor’s absence as a “total disrespect.”

Among the leaders were the Minority Leader in Parliament, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Sammy Gyamfi, and Sam George.

Dr. Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, expressed his sense of disrespect as a parliamentary opposition leader due to the Governor’s absence.

He remarked, “Let me say that I feel disrespected as a leader of the opposition in parliament for a simple reason that we demanded to present a petition to the Governor of the Central Bank of Ghana… unfortunately, he has decided to disrespect us, and his two deputies have also decided to disrespect us.”

In response to the Governor’s absence, Dr. Ato Forson declared, “We will come back again.”

He further added that if the Governor deemed the IMF meeting more important than the Parliament of Ghana and therefore chose not to accept the petition personally, they would return at another time.
