Bolga: Over 6,000 farmers benefit from Rearing for Food and Jobs Programme

About 50 women will be selected for support under the government flagship programme “Rearing for Food and Jobs” this year.

This is as a result of improvement in Agriculture productivity in the Municipality following the Planting for Food and Jobs Programme (PFJP), which led many young people venturing into the sector which hitherto was unattractive.

This was disclosed by the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive Joseph Amiyuure Atura in an interview with our Correspondent Emmanuel Akayeti in Bolgatanga.

He stated that, in the run up to the 2020 cropping season for instance, the Municipality received about 85,342 mini bags of subsidized fertilizer which were distributed to 6,742 beneficiary farmers made up of 5,109 males and 1,633 females adding that, farmers will continue their patronage of the programme not only to better their lots but to also ensure the programme’s sustainability.

Mr Amiyuure explained the resultant impact of the food balance sheet for 2020 and its related pro-poor policies.

On health, the MCE said the Municipality is in dire need of a Municipal hospital and it behoves on them as duty bearers, to canvas for the provision of the facility in the Municipality.

He gave an insight of measure proposed before the Presiding Members for consideration in that regard.

As part of efforts to address the infrastructural gap in the Health sector, the Assembly in collaboration with its development partners and through various funding sources in providing the needed health infrastructure for communities across the Municipality.

The move is to help strengthen the Municipal Health System.
