Residents of Kalbeo in Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional Capital, say they find it difficult to move to their farms or to other public places as recent rains have weakened the footbridge in the community.

The rains have further created water diversions that make it extremely difficult for commuters to find their way out to places.

Residents say they are living in fear as the footbridge has become a death-trap.

Residents in the area have expressed fear that another downpour could destroy their property and cut them off the central business municipality, as the bridge under construction cannot withstand torrential rains.

Some residents who struggled to cross the bridge to Bolga Township spoke about neglect and leaving them to their fate despite several appeals to fix the footbridge.

GBC’s Samuel Ayammah reports that checks confirm that the contractor working on the footbridge has abandoned the site.

Kalbeo is a farming community with a population of more than 2,000 in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region.
