Books about Kwahu out-doored: President Akufo-Addo lauds traditional Leaders

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has urged Ghanaians to respect and uphold the rich cultural values of various traditional areas of Ghana. At the launch of the Kwahu State Book at Mpraeso in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region, he said that will ensure peaceful coexistence amongst citizens to promote development.

President Akufo Addo commended the Chiefs and people of the Kwahu Traditional Authority for outdooring the book and encouraged others to follow their example.

He disclosed that “chieftaincy disputes are a major threat to national security and must therefore be avoided at all times”.

As part of the Easter festivities, the Kwahu Traditional Council in collaboration with the Ghana State Book, launched the three-thousand-page Kwahu State Book which depicts the history, culture, and customs of all the sub-towns under the Kwahu area.

Compilation of data and information for the book, which were derived from traditional historians, chiefs, as well as facts from the Bureau of Ghana Languages and the National Commission on Culture began in 2018. The Communications Director of the Ghana State Book, David Dontoh highlighted the importance of the book calling on Ghanaians to support the showcase of the traditions.

The Paramount Chief of Kwahu, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong said, Kwahu has played a significant role in the socio-economic development of the country which should not be underestimated.

He was grateful to the President, as well as the officials of the Ghana State Book for the success of the launch.

The first fifteen autographed copies of the book were purchased for more than GHC 10,000 each. The book will subsequently be sold to the public at GHC 1,200 per copy.
