Bono and Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs sensitised on COVID-19

The Bono and Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs has been sentitised and educated on the Covid-19 safety preventive protocols and the impact of Non- Communicable diseases.

The training by the Ministry of Information, the Ghana Health Service, and its partners was to engage the Chiefs to better understand the Covid19 pandemic, its related challenges and the need to be ambassadors in the fight against the pandemic in their various jurisdictions.

The training was led by the Director of Health Promotions Division of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and lead of the National Risk Communications and Social Mobilisation Committee for Ghana’s COVID-19 Response Team, Dr. Da Costa Aboagye.

Dr Aboagye said the COVID-19 outbreak has brought in its wake lots of challenges including stigmatisation and discriminatory behavior against infected persons.

He said stigmatisation has prevented countless people from seeking help thereby increasing infections.

He said most of the co-mobidities that occurred were with underlying conditions that stems from Non-Communicable disease such as hypertension, stress, strokes cancer, among others.

He entreated “Nananon” to help in education on Non-Communicable disease prevention and the need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. He said community engagement is key in the fight against the pandemic and its related diseases.

The President of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, Nana Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese V, thanked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the measures put in place by his government to curtail the spread of COVID 19 which has yielded positive results in the entire nation and Bono and Ahafo region in particular.

He said the low infection rates can only be maintained if the WHO/GHS COVID-19 safety protocols are strictly adhered to.

Nana Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese V was optimistic that Ghana will surmount the COVID 19 pandemic soon.

He promised Nananoms commitment to work with Government to ensure the safety of the citizenry.
