Deputy Ranking Member on the Lands and Forestry Committee of Parliament, Alhassan Suhuyini, has condemned the approach deployed by government in the fight against galamsey.

Mr. Suhuyini noted that burning of equipment was wrong and will not solve the problem.

He said the same punitive measure has been used over and over again without any positive results.

Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, “Focus”, Alhaji Suhuyini recommended a radical approach to tackling the menace, saying this will drastically give the country the result it wants.

He also added that the equipment that are being burnt could be used for other purposes.

Mr. Suhuyini called for a review of the water Act (Act) 1996.

MP for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah, called on the ministers to explain to the chiefs how negatively the galamsey affect the people.
