Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has indicated that the policy document to facilitate the introduction of a centralised admission system for all public tertiary institutions has been approved by Cabinet.

Known as the Centralized University Admissions and Placement Service (CAPS), this system will replace the current stressful and expensive system of applying to different Universities.

Vice President Bawumia said this at the 40th Anniversary and 25th Graduation Ceremony of the Valley View University at Oyibi.

Established in 1979 with a student population of 20, the Valley View University has over the past decade grown to about 9000, churning out an average of about 1000 students each year.

The National Accreditation Board (Ghana) granted it national accreditation in 1995 thus allowing the university to award her own degrees making Valley View University the first private institution in Ghana to be granted national accreditation.

The  University Chancellor, Pr. Dr. Elie Weick-Dido said the time has come to train the youth in the way the should go and imbibe in them the fear of God.

He lauded the country for the peaceful co-existence stressing that university and the Seventh Day Adventist Church at large will continue to contribute  its quota towards national development.

The Vice Chancellor of the Valley View University, Prof. Daniel Kwame Bediako in his report indicated that as part of the 40th Anniversary celebration, two endowment funds will be established to support the university.

He also used the occasion to call on government to regulate admissions into the universities adding that national service personnel should also be posted to the private institutions without restrictions.

Vice President Bawumia said government alone cannot provide education stressing that  role of religious institutions in  educating the public is commendable.

While urging the university to foster collaboration with other institutions and build linkages for exposure to more opportunities, Vice President Bawumia entreated the graduants to make themselves useful to the society and stand for the truth.

He announced that Cabinet has approved the policy document to centralize university admissions.

In all about 2080 students graduated from the university.
