Calls for social work agencies to be well resourced digitally

A Lecturer at the Department of Social Work of the University of Ghana, Legon. Dr. Abigail Mills has advocated the digitization of social work to make the work less cumbersome.

She said social work is a thriving field, so resorting to manual administration of social services in this era of technological advancement is not helpful for Ghana.

Dr. Mills said COVID-19 has highlighted the need for social work agencies to be well-resourced.

Ghana today joins the rest of the world to mark Social Workers Day with a call for the establishment of a regulatory body to oversee the activities of Social Workers in the country.

This will help highlight the importance of the profession which has existed in the country for over seven decades.

General Secretary of the Ghana Association of Social Workers, Joyce Kulevor explained that Social Workers do not get the needed recognition in the country because the principles of the profession are based on confidentiality.
