The Community Development Alliance, CDA and the Civil Society Coalition for Climate Justice have called for immediate prosecution of those involved in illegal logging, especially rosewood.

Executive Director of CDA, Salifu Issifu Kanton who made this known to Journalists  in Wa, also asked the Attorney General and the Ministry of the Interior to perform what he termed “their sacred duties” by ensuring that crimes against the environment are punished to serve as a deterrent.

The news conference was held on the heels of reports of the arrest of a 41-year-old Chinese woman, Helena Huang found with four containers of rosewood she was transporting to an unknown destination.

Currently, there is a ban on salvaging, transporting and exporting rosewood in Ghana. Mr. Kanton spoke about investigations into the banned rosewood trade in Upper West.

A plea was also made to the relevant authorities to end the illicit rosewood trade.
Mr Kanton entreated the authorities not to bow to pressure from groups associated with the illegal rosewood enterprise to lift the ban.
