A Vice President of the Republic of Costa Rica in the Caribbean, Epsy Campbell Barr has advised all people of African descent to unite and work together as Africans in order to bring development and progress in the Continent. She further advised Africans in the diaspora to have a vision and to work together as Africans to promote their rich culture and tradition towards unity on the Continent.
Madam Barr gave the advice during her visit to the Paramount Chief of the Akwamuman Traditional Area, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto and the Queen Mother of the Traditional Area, Nana Afrakoma in the Asuogyaman District of Eastern Region. Her Excellency Campbell Barr noted that her visit is as a way of unification and to recognize the cultural heritage of Africa.
The Executive Director of United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA and the UN under the Secretary-General, Dr. Natalia Kanem, noted that the visit is a return mission, reunification mission and also to reconnect to the African root. Dr. Kanem added that the visit is to experience the rich culture of Africa.
The Paramount Chief of the Akwamuman Traditional Area, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto noted that during his visit to Costa Rica, he realized that there is a rising call for Africans across the globe for their collective economic power to facilitate the development of Africa. Odeneho Kwafo Akoto noted that during his visit, he stated that Africa will rewrite the narrative and will challenge the stereotypes associated with the Continent.
He noted that his statement reinforces President Akufo-Addo’s Year of Return agenda.
The UNFPA boss noted that unintended pregnancy has been an invisible crisis for too long and thus UNFPA is calling on policymakers to devise ways to mitigate the issue.
