The Board of the National Cathedral of Ghana says it is disappointed by President John Mahama’s decision to dissolve the Board, even though investigations into the project by key state institutions are still ongoing and no wrongdoing has been officially found.

In a statement released on July 18, 2025, the Board said the President’s instruction to the Attorney General to take steps to dissolve the Board is troubling, especially because the Board had been working with the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs on the way forward for the project.

The Board said the government’s recent press conference on the matter did not provide full information to the public, saying the press conference focused only on queries in the Management Letter and not the full Audit Reports from 2020 to 2023. The Board also claims their responses to those queries were ignored, even though the Minister had copies of them.

“We note with concern that the press conference was not a full disclosure,” the Board stated. “It was skewed towards raising questions but left out our detailed answers.”

The Board added that they took up the task of building the National Cathedral because they believed it was an important national project. They reaffirmed their commitment to the idea of completing the Cathedral despite the difficulties.
