Tina TuChiana Association made up of sons and daughters of Chiana in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region both home and the diaspora whose aim is to turn around the developmental challenges and to improve the lives of residents in the area has donated PPEs to the Chiana Senior High School, Chiana Health Centre and the Chiana Traditional Council to help fight the novel coronavirus pandemic in the area.
The items donated include 20 veronica buckets, 20 gallons of liquid soap, over thousand face masks, public address system among others.
At a short ceremony at the Palace of the Paramount Chief of the Chiana Traditional Area, the leadership of the Association urged residents in the area to strictly adhere to all the safety protocols recommended by the W.H.O and the Ghana Health Services.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Dominic Aloreweh, a member of the Tina TuChiana Association, who donated the items to the beneficiary institutions on behalf of the Association said the move became necessary when they observed that most of the residents in the area are not observing the COVID-19 safety protocols.
Mr. Aloreweh explained that the level of education on the virus in the area was low, hence the move to help educate residents in the area.
According to him, the Public Address system will be used on Chiana market days to educate market men and women on the coronavirus safety protocols.
He said it was about time residents realized that the coronavirus disease was real and could infect anyone, regardless of one’s status in society.
Mr. Aloreweh reiterated the Association’s commitment towards the fight against the virus.
He said the Association is non-political and was initiated to help fill the developmental gaps in Chiana and its environs.
The immediate past Vice President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, PeDetungdiniAyagitamAdiali II, who is also the Paramount Chief of the Chiana Traditional Area, commended Tina TuChiana Association for the gesture.
He said the move will go a long way to curb the spread of the virus in the area. He said the fight against the virus is a collective responsibility, hence the need for all to complement government efforts to fight the spreading virus.
He charged his subjects to educate the residents in their catchment areas on the COVID-19 safety protocols.
PeDetungdiniAyagitamAdiali, described the move by the Tina TuChiana Association as timely and called on sons and daughters from the area who are in the diaspora to emulate same.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Chiana SHS, the Assistant Headmaster of school, Adogiweh Johnson, commended the Tina TuChiana Association for the gesture and was quick to add that the school will need more face masks to help stem the spread among the final year students.
Mr. Adogiwe said even though they have received some PPEs from the Kassena-Nankana West District Assembly, the school need more PPEs.
The facility head of the Chiana Health Centre, Madam Cindy Sulemana, said lack of PPEs at the facility is impacting negatively on quality healthcare delivery.
She said even though they have received some PPEs from government, they will need more especially the reusable face masks.
Mrs. Sulemana thanked Tina TuChiana Association for the gesture.
When our reporter visited the Chiana market, it was observed that market men and women were not wearing face masks and the social distancing protocol was not also adhered to.
