Fix our broken bridge – Paramount Chief appeals

By: Peter Agengre

The Paramount Chief of the Paga Traditional Area in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region, Pe Charles Awiah Awampaga II is worried that the only bridge connecting Paga-Navio-Sirigu and to Bolgatanga collapsed in April 2022 and has since not been repaired.

According to the Chief, the collapse of the bridge has stalled many economic activities between the Kasena-Nankana West District and the Bolgatanga Municipality.

“We have a bridge that is linking so many communities from Paga to Navio to Zeko to sirigu and back to Bolga.

It has been broken down, making economic activities very hard for our people. Farmers to bring their produce to the Paga market is a problem for us. We are appealing to you to come to our aid in this regard”, the chief appealed.

Pe Charles Awiah Awampaga was speaking at his Palace when Vice President Dr. Mahamud Bawumia called on him, while on a one-day working visit to the region.

The Chief indicated that all appeals at the Kasena-Nankana West District Assembly to work on the bridge have not yielded any results.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamud Bawumia said his visit was to listen to the issues of the people.

“This is really the benefit that we get from these visits. Because we hear from the horses own mouth and so I’m most grateful for this opportunity to listen directly to you and I want to assure you that this challenge you have presented to us we are going to work on them as we have done to other projects.” Dr. Bawumia assured.
