Chiefs in the Tamale Metropolis have advised the media against the publication and broadcast of fake news in the area. They noted that fake news is a threat to the current peace being enjoyed in Tamale.

The chiefs gave the advice during a visit by the management of GBC Radio Savannah to various palaces to introduce the new Regional Director of the Corporation, Yaw Ampofo Kwarteng to them. He took over from Alhassan Abukari early this month.

The chiefs include Dakpema, Fusheini Bawa, Gulkpegu Naa, Alhaji Abdulai Alhassan and Bogulana, Alhassan Abdulrahaman.

The chiefs complained about the unprofessional conduct of some radio stations in the municipality and advised that they adhere to the ethics of the profession to ensure sustained peace in the area.

Mr. Ampofo Kwarteng promised the chiefs of the Corporation’s commitment to national unity and cohesion, adding that broadcasting stations should be seen as vehicles for peace and reconciliation.

He also promised to run an open-door policy, saying stakeholders are essential for successful broadcasting.
