International Relations Expert Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, says the situation in Chad will become dire following the death of the President with his son named as an interim successor.
He said the move is likely to see Chad experience an increase in insurgency and derail efforts made at strengthening its democracy.
In an interview with GBC NEWS, Dr. Pelpuo said the death of the president presents a time for reflection and warned against decisions that could violate its democratic credentials.
Chad’s President Idriss Déby died in clashes with rebels in the North of the country at the weekend.
According to reports, his son General Mahamat Kaka has been appointed the country’s new leader.
Meanwhile, a state funeral is due to take place on Friday, April 23 for President, Idriss Déby, who died of his injuries following clashes with rebels in the north of the country. The government and parliament have been dissolved.
A curfew has also been imposed and the borders have been shut. Mr. Déby was one of Africa’s longest-serving leaders.
