Construction of Keta Port to commence 2019 – Fisheries Minister assures

The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Elizabeth Afoley Quaye has gave the assurance that, The Government is committed to its promised to build the third Sea Port at The Keta Municipal Assembly.
The Minister emphasized that, the feasibility study has been concluded and the funds for The Project were also obtained from The Chinese Government to start work.
Addressing The Chiefs and The people of Kedzi in Accra to launch Norvikporgbe Za 2019, in Accra, as a precursor to the Easter celebration, under the theme: “Harnessing Local Resources For Socio-Economic Development”, The Sector Minister noted that, “The New Patriotic Party, (NPP) in its 2016 Manifesto recognize the potential of adding another port facility to the already existing two Ports of Tema and Takoradi.
“This Port for The Keta Enclave by its feasibility reveals that setting this facility here will generate employment and attract foreign investment into the area especially from neighbouring countries such as Togo.
Not only this but will also serve as an instrument for oil exploration in The Keta Enclave which will be beneficial to Kedzi also”.

According to her, The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has already signed an Executive Instrument (E.I) that allows for entry into partnership with government for work to commence.

Let it be noted that my Ministry has already commerced studies on culturable spKedz that can be cultured in both the marine and brackish water environments, she added.

The Minister reminded the people that “with the construction of the new port facility, there would be a thriving fishing business since there would be special landing site for fish that will be helpful to the already thriving fishing business to provide safe and quality fish both for home and export”.

On the potential for tourism wiith the rich culture of the people and the good sanitary practices already in existence, Madam Elizabeth said, “the upsurge of the tourism industry will be and added advantage for the to generate wealth for the area”

The Dufia of Kedzi, Torgbui Joachim (V) Acolatse expressd joy ovee the recent,signing of an Executive Instrument by The President to “declaring the coastline of Kedzi as a Port, as part of the Keta Harbour Master plan.

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority has since mapped out the Kedzi zone for ththe purpose”.

He said by this gesture, they believe, an opportunity has opened up for the people of Kedzi to effectively utilize its natural resources to fuel economic development.

Torgbui made it clear that, “as a Dufia of Kedzi, my overall vision, is to see the development of an optimistic, self-confident and prosperous Kedzi, through the creative exploitation of our human and natural resources, operating within a democratic, open and fair society in which mutual trust and economic opportunities exist for us all”.

The Member of Parliament for Keta, Richard Quashigah saluted the people of Kedzi, especially The Chiefs and Elders for the vision to develop The Area through this festival and to also sustain it till today.

He mentioned that, “It’s obviously and abundantly clear, that our Dufia is not just vibrate but he’s a man of vision with a great passion and I share in that passion too”.

Mr. Quashigah revealed that, since Torgbui Acolatse became Dufia of Kedzi:, “We can, as sons and daughters of the soil admit that we begun witnessing a difference in a unique way as far as our cerebrations and activities are concerned”,.

According to him “Kedzi will grow, Kedzi will transform, and Kedzi will become a centre piece of envy not just in Anloland but the whole of The Volta Regional”.

Background to the Kedzi Norvikporgbe Za:

About five decades ago, a group of eminent citizens of Kedzi wanting to promote mutual trust, friendship and unity in Kedzi spearheaded the idea to institute a festival at Easter.

This they believed will give the community the opportunity to annually come together to dialogue, and take stock of the activities of the previous year and plan developmental projects that will enhance the socio-economic well-being of the people in the ensuing years.

Subsequently, over the years, it has been customary for the Dutia, chiefs, elders and the people of Kedzi to come together at Easter to celebrate this festival.

Now, this annual durbar which brings together all citizens of Kedzi and surrounding areas, home and abroad, as well as friends and well-wishers and gives them the opportunity to fraternize, take stock of developmental activities of the previous year, present a programme of developmental projects for the ensuing year and also showcase the rich cultural heritage of the community, hence its name Norvikporgbe Za.

Every year, a special project towards the development of Kedzi is initiated and this informed the theme for this year’s event, which is: “Harnessing Local Resources for Socio-Economic Development”.

Location of Kedzi:

Kedzi, is located in the Keta Municipality, with the Atlantic Ocean to its south and the Keta lagoon to its North. It is one of the most romantic travel destinations in Ghana, a Symphony of colours and forms that is second to none in the world, according to Torgbui Acolatse.
