The Programmes Manager of the Ghana Integrity Initiative, Mary Awelana Addah, has described as worrying, the survey by the Ghana Statistical Service and partners, which revealed that an estimated amount of ¢5 billion cedis was paid as bribes in the year 2021.

She said although it is not surprising, the Public Service needs to be critically looked at to curb the phenomena.

Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs programme, “Talking Point“, Madam Awelana Addah said the impunity in the public sector with regard to bribery is undermining the fight against corruption.

Director of Legal and Demographic Service at the Ghana Statistical Service, Anthony Amuzu Pharin, said anti-corruption institutions alone cannot curb the canker, stressing the need for intensive awareness creation on bribery to help the fight.
