An Accra Circuit Court judge, Emmanuel Essandoh, has fined Patience Asiedua popularly known as Nana Agradaa ¢36,000 for ‘operating TV without license’ after pleading guilty.

She was convicted on her own plea and accordingly fined.

In default, she will serve a three-year jail term in hard labour.

For the offence of ‘Charlatanic advertisement’ popularly referred to as Sika Gari, the court sentenced her to a fine of ¢10,000 and in default, serve a one-year jail term.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

Nana Agradaa earlier pleaded not guilty to charges of operating TV without licence contrary to the Electronic Transaction Act and ‘Charlatanic advertisement’ contrary to section 137 of the Criminal Offences Act but changed her plea.

Nana Agradaa told the Court she had settled all outstanding debts with the National Communications Authority.

She was arrested after her satellite television channel ‘Thunder TV’, was found to be operating illegally and granted a 500,000 self-recognisance bail by the court.

Her arrest followed a raid by a joint team of Police and National Security Intelligence Operatives, in collaboration with the National Communications Authority for illegally transmitting without license at Kasoa in the Central Region.
