As part of measures to ensure the strict enforcement of President Akufo-Addo’s directive of the COVID-19 safety protocols, the Upper East Regional branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has organised a press conference in Bolgatanga to address the media, the Security Agencies, Heads and Managers of the various branches operating at the lorry station.

Speaking in an interview with GBC’s Emmanuel Akayeti, the Upper East Regional Industrial Relations Officer, Asorsa Moahmmed Nashiru outlined plans for compliance to the President’s directive for all the safety protocols to be adhered to by all Transport Unions and the General Public.

Regarding how they can ensure people comply with the measures, he explained that the Regional Secretariat has directed all levels of the Union to provide hand hygiene facility and enforce mandatory wearing of nose mask.

Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Chairman of the GPRTU, Alhaji Abubakari Alhassan, says the Union will not spare any driver who disregards the COVID-19 protocols aimed at curbing the spread of the pandemic.

Addressing the media in Tamale, Alhaji Alhassan said those who flout the safety protocol directives will be banned from loading for more than one month or a month’s suspension from office.
