Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the national capital, Accra, have become rigorous in the enforcement of COVID-19 safety protocols following reports of upsurge in active cases in the country.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his update number 22 on measures taken against the spread of the pandemic, said there had been an upsurge in the number of active cases, from a little over 900 to I,924 cases and directed the police to enforce adherence of the safety protocols.
It has been observed that there were wash basins for hand washing, dispensers containing soap and sanitisers, and wall thermometers outside the premises of the offices for visitors and staff to observe the safety protocols.
At the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service, one has to go through the processes of hand washing, hand sanitising and checking of temperature before allowed access to the reception of the offices.
Officers, a nurse and an administrative staff enforcing the protocols ensured that all staff and visitors masked up and had gone through all the safety protocols to contain the spread of the virus.
The GNA also observed that clients and people walking around the Ministries were in nose masks.
In a related issue, traders in parts of Accra, continue to disregard COVID-19 safety protocols and sat in close proximity, with many not wearing nose masks, on Monday.
A few traders, who had their nose masks under their chins, told GNA they were having difficulty in breathing with the masks, “so we removed it occasionally to breathe in fresh air.”
Handwashing stations were also completely out of sight.
Some drivers, who spoke to GNA, said they needed personal protective equipment to observe the safety protocols and ensure that passengers did same.
