The Ghana Water Company Limited, GWCL, has assured its customers in the Upper West region that there will be uninterrupted flow of water to allow residents wash their hands thoroughly as part of precautionary measures against the Corona Virus, COVID-19.

The Regional Chief Manager of GWCL, Clement Kuukayeng, mentioned that the company had increased production to meet the increased demand. Mr Kuukaayeng mentioned that tankers services have been made available for interested persons who are beyond the distribution coverage of the company. He was speaking to the GBC at Wa.

Following directives from the Ministry of Health to ensure thorough hand washing under running water to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, there has been increased demand for water across the country. This has led to reported cases of water shortages across the country but the Upper West Regional Chief Manager of the GWCL, Clement Kuukaayeng, has assured residents in the Upper West Region who are in the company’s catchment areas that there will be continuous flow of water despite the increase in demand.

“Water has always been a necessity, Coronavirus or not. At this point in time we have no problem at all with the supply of water in our catchment areas. We supply 24/7 except where there are transmission problems, leakages and stuff like that. Other than that, everybody should be getting enough water to take care of their daily needs and also precautionary measures in this era of Corona Virus,” he said.

Mr Kuukayeng added that as part of measure to keep staff and clients of the organisation safe, hand sanitisers, gloves and washing stations have been made available at vantage points.

In a related development, the Regional Manager of the Tourism Authority, Moses Ndebugri, says the Authority has cancelled its upcoming Tourism Awards in keeping with the protocols established by the Presidency and Ministry of Health. Mr Ndebugri encouraged players in the hospitality industry in the Upper West Region to ensure they provide clients with handwashing stations, sanitizers and other sanitary products.
