The Crime Check Foundation, an NGO, has donated 100 student mattresses at a cost of 12 thousand cedis to the National Headquarters of the Ghana Prisons Service in Accra.

The mattresses are to be distributed to the various prisons. This is the second donation by the foundation to the service since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country. The mattresses have come at the time that there are reports of inmates sleeping on the bare floor of the prisons.

The Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians both home and abroad, philanthropic organizations and corporate institutions to support the Prisons Service in whatever form possible.

This is because the situations in the country’s prisons are precarious now that the prisons authorities have set up Covid-19 isolation centres in the prisons.

Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng. The Director of Prisons in charge of Welfare, Leopold Kwame Amoah Ansah, expressed gratitude to the Crime Check Foundation for the timely gesture.

He appealed to government to fast track the approval of its proposal for an upward review of the feeding grant to prisoners. Mr. Ansah also called on corporate organizations and philanthropic individuals and institutions to come to the aid of the service in the reformation of prisoners.
