As Ghana joins the rest of the World to mark World Water Day today, Drink Safe Water Ghana Limited, an NGO seeks to draw attention to how water bodies such as Densu, Birim, Ankobra, and Offin, which have in one way or the other been neglected with human activities such as galamsey polluting it.

In a statement, the Chief Executive Officer of Drink Safe Water Ghana Limited Krobea Asante asked for the chlorination of such water bodies so that those who consume them are not affected negatively.

The statement said Ghana with its population of 29 million has only 9 million people who lack access to improved sanitation putting it at about 25 percent of the total population who live below the poverty line.

The organization reminds government of its responsibility towards Act 522 of1996, the Act which regulates ownership and control of all water resources which are vested in the president on behalf of the people, and clearly defines the Water Resources Commission as the overall body responsible for water resources management in Ghana.

It urges the government not to relent on its promise of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa as pollution of the environment will not guarantee health for all as envisaged on the global goals on health.
