The Chief Executive of Community Water and Sanitation Agency, CWSA, Dr. Worlanyo Kwadjo Siabi, has expressed worry about the level of fluoride, lead, and other minerals found in water sources across the country.

Data available to the Agency suggests that about 30 percent of the groundwater has high levels of iron, manganese, fluorides, arsenic, and hardness, all of which have health implications.

At a news briefing in Accra, Dr. Siabi said surface water sources have also deteriorated due to human activities in most river basins. But the Agency is working to provide quality water to rural communities.

He announced that the Agency’s reforms initiated in the face of daunting challenges, have yielded positive results, especially in the water and sanitation sectors.

These challenges include ”frequent breakdown of water facilities, unaccounted for revenue from water, and accumulated electricity bills”.
