Dan Botwe discusses SoCo Project with Upper West Media

A get-together has been organised for the media in Upper West at the Residency in Wa.The event was to informally further discuss the Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SoCo) Project with media practitioners and to seek their assistance for its successful implementation.

Speaking at the function, the Minister for Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, Dan Botwe, reinforced the need for teamwork to implement policies and projects that will improve the living conditions of the people, emphasising that “we cannot be unfair to the people we represent”.

Ninety-two community facilitators have been employed in the Upper West and given the necessary logistics, while key staff have also been trained to carry out their duties well with respect to the  SOCO Project, the Minister added.

Mr Botwe used the occasion to introduce the Zonal Coordinator of the SOCO Project for the Upper West and Savannah Regions, David Yankey and other officials to the media and charged them to appropriately update journalists on the project.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, indicated that he will provide a kind of leadership to make the SOCO Project a shining example and called on all allies to redouble their efforts to make the second phase of the project equally successful.

The Upper West Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Sualah Abdul-wahab pledged the support of the media to the SOCO Project but urged officials implementing the project to carry the media along every step of the way to ensure impactful coverage.

He also entreated Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) hosting the project to give media people the needed leg up for them to give indepth publicity to the project in various localities.
