The Auditor-General, Daniel Domelevo, has charged public institutions to observe regulations and desist from flouting institutional procedures. He said failure to comply with the rules creates challenges for accountability.
Mr. Domelevo was speaking at the opening of the Public Accounts Committee sitting in Tamale.
During the hearing, the Wa Polytechnic failed to provide receipts for some items they procured in the name of the school. They also failed to account for store items amounting to GH¢29,000.
The Wa and Bolgatanga Polytechnics, as well as the Tamale Technical University, took their turns at the opening of the hearing.
Other infractions discovered include, bloated budgets, unrecovered salary advance and overpricing. These findings are related to the 2016 fiscal year.
Mr. Domelevo in his remarks noted that, under no circumstances should public institutions flout the rules.
The Auditor-General expressed concern about the level of malfeasance in the public sector. He called for the commercialisation of the law to enable private firms to prosecute public officials for corruption to save the public purse.
