The Divisional Crime Officer—Yendi Divisional Command, Superintendent Happy Adei, has revealed that some security devices which include CCTV cameras, drones and intelligence teams have been put in place as the coronation of the new Overlord of the Dagbon State takes place Today, Friday, January 25, 2019.
He said these security devices and persons will be located at vantage points, all over Yendi to expose any criminal activity which may be carried out by any lawless person or group to destabilize the peace and order in the town. He added that anyone fond will be persecuted.
The Crime Officer of Yendi, made this known in an interview on Radio Ghana’s current Affairs programme “Behind The  News”.
He said this time around the police men are armed to the teeth to ensure possible security because the zone is a conflict one.
Superintendent Adei said the Military is playing a major role in partnering with the police, supported by the Immigration and the Prisons Services.
He said that the curfew imposed in Yendi still remains from 6pm to 6am and there is prohibition of possession of weapons and anyone found will be prosecuted. He said security have been beefed up to also ensure that arms are not smuggled into Yendi by putting up checks at various police barriers.
Furthermore, Superintendent Adei said members of the town have been asked to cooperate with the police and provide credible information to enable them carry out their duties accordingly.
He said there will also be checks for unwanted behaviours which can disturb the peace of the occasion.
Superintendent Adei finally gave the assurance saying that: “They should not loose trust in us, we are on top and we are up to the task. We are going to make sure that everything ends properly without any problem, so they should have trust in us, we are not going to fail them”.
Also making his contribution on the programme, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has described the peace process of Dagbon as a befitting result after years of mediation and investments of resources.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah attributed the glory and success of the conflict resolution of Dagbon to the Almighty God.
He said government is delighted that all of its efforts have not been in vain and that the doors of Dagbon will now be opened for development as normalcy has been restored.
He said cabinet under the current government leadership has approved a $30,000,000 water project for the people of Yendi and will be laid before parliament on its resume. He said this just one of many developments that government has planned for the people of Yendi.
He said President Akufo-Addo has more in his sleeves for the people of Dagbon as the father of both the Abudus and the Andanis as he has stated before to let Dagbon shine forth once again.
He commended the three eminent chiefs of being committed and matured in handling the process and also the two warring sides for being understanding. He said it was heartwarming as the President drove from the Tamale airport through the town, seeing even children with placards and in t-shirts saying coming close to say ‘thank you’.
In a related development, reports from Yendi indicate that all is set for the investiture of a new overlord of the Dagbon State today, who is in the person of Yaa Naa Abubakar Mahama.
The programme is arranged to begin by 9am and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other high ranking officials are expected to grace the occasion.
Also, expected at the enskinment ceremony are Former Presidents, Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor and John Dramani Mahama.
In addition will be the three eminent chiefs who cooperated with government and drafted the roadmap for the Dagbon peace process.
For 17 years now, the Abudus and Andanis both of the Dagbon State have been at each other’s throat after the gruesome murder of the Yaa Naa Andani at the Gbewaa Palace.
In some instances, lives were lost and houses burnt as a result of clashes between the Abudu and Andani gates.
Many attempts and efforts to resolve peace amongst them proved futile from past governments.
Government together with the commitment of three eminent chiefs has finally been able to resolve calm back to Yendi.
The President is currently in Tamale, awaiting the coronation to take place in the morning.
