Dualization begins on sections of Accra Kumasi Road to ease traffic

The Ministry of Roads and Highways will begin the construction of by-roads on sections of the Accra Kumasi road to ease traffic on Congestion on the road.

The by-passes will be constructed at Osino, Anyinam, Konongo among others which are currently single carriage roads and experience heavy congestion.

The Ministry of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah said this when he opened the Kwafokrom–Apedwa section of the Accra-Kumasi Highway, currently being dualised to traffic.

The opening of the 31.7 km road is to ease traffic flow on the Highway throughout the festive season.

Work on the Kwafokrom–Apedwa project, which commenced in October 2018, was scheduled to be completed in 24 months by the China International Water and Electric Corporation.

The Government has targeted to build 11,000 km of road between now and 2024, out of which 6,000 km are expected to be fully completed by that time.

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Attah reiterated the roads in the country to reduce carnage on the roads.

He said in the interim the by-passes on congested sections on the Accra Kumasi Highway which have not yet been dualised will help reduce the travel time on the road.

Mr Amoako-Attah cautioned drivers using the road to be on the lookout for MTTD Officials for directions.

The Eastern Region MTTD Commander, Chief Supt Stephen Ahiatafu, said the opening of the dual carriage road will help reduce head-on collisions on the road.

He cautioned drivers to obey traffic regulations on the road as recalcitrant persons will be dealt with.

The Eastern Region Minister, Seth Acheampong, said the District Assembly and the Road Safety Authority are engaging people who have erected illegal billboards and structures on the road to bring sanity on the road.
