Earth tremor hits parts of Ghana

Parts of Ghana especially the Greater Accra Region was hit by a fleeting earth tremor Wednesday night which was reported on social media by many residents.

The earth tremor which took place at about 10:40 occurred three times within a space of 10 minutes and shook buildings, creating panic among some residents.

Some of the areas the tremor was felt in Ghana as monitored by GBCGHANAONLINE on social media were Tesano, Teshie, Nungua, Labadi, Osu, Weija, McCarthy Hill, Gbawe, Kaneshie, Dansoman, Dakuman, Lapaz, Achimota, Santa Maria, Adenta, Madina, Kwabenya, East Legon,  Circle, Kokomlemle, Accra Newtown, Kasoa, Nsawam, Koforidua, Swedru, Dodowa, Tema among other areas.

In videos circulating on social media, people were seen running out of their homes to seek refuge in open spaces.

In an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana, some residents said they heard movement but did not know it was an earth tremor until friends and social media confirmed it this morning.

They explained that the phenomenon was a bit scary.

Meanwhile, several other cities/countries worldwide experienced some form of earthquake on the same night, including New Zealand; Japan (East Coast of Honshu); Mexico (near coast of Oaxaca); Ecuador; Arizona, USA; Lone Pine, California-USA; Iran; Papua New Guinea; Puerto Rico, among others.
