Easter 2022: Best ever- Revelers in Volta Region say

By Edzorna Francis Mensah

The 2022 Easter celebrations witnessed a huge number of revelers engaging in outdoor events: Fun Fares, Street Jams, Picnics, and Get-Togethers after the ban on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions were lifted.

The massive participation of revelers in outdoor events during this year’s festivity could be attributed to the two years of restrictions on human movement, and social gathering coupled with a ban on operations of Drinking Spots/Bars, Night Clubs, Beach Parties, Restaurants, and the complete shutdown of the entertainment industry in Ghana and beyond.

Francis Mensah Edzorna who monitored and participated in some of the activities, as of Good Friday in some selected Communities in Southern Volta, reports that there were huge numbers of merrymakers seen at social gatherings in almost every Community he visited during the Easter celebrations.

The Good Friday night witnessed all-night jamming from loudspeakers with local artists doing live performances to entertain their audience in towns like Agbozume, Weta, Akaglakorpe, Keta, and Aflao, Adafienu, Havedzi, and Nogokpo.

According to Edzorna, the Sunday night of April 17, 2022, saw more massive merrymakers at the various street carnivals which began around 1900GMT till past midnight, a heavy downpour brought an end to the jamboree across the Volta Region.

Meanwhile, on Easter Monday a series of beach parties took place, right from the most popular Makavo Junction-Small-Small Beach near Aflao Border, Denu, Azizadzi/Havedzi, and Adafienu were well parked causing human traffic.

Beaches like Adina, Blekusu, Vodza, Kedzi, and almighty Aborigines located behind Ketasco recorded the most patronized hideouts with hundreds of patrons all the way from the Greater Accra region.

Many of the participants who spoke to gbcghanaonline.com were happy that the Covid-19 restrictions were lifted for good.

According to them, it’s been two years without fun fare with their families back home on occasions such as the Easter holidays.

One thing that was clear at these events or gatherings was that caution about Covid-19 protocols was thrown to the dogs, as people were seen hugging themselves openly, no Veronica buckets for handwashing, and others walked freely without nose masks, and there were no hand sanitizers insight.
