EC is concerned about sanctity of Voters Register- Dr. Serebour Quaicoe

EC is concerned

The Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission, Dr Serebour Quaicoe has been explaining the EC’s position in the on-going debate about why it decided to limit the voter registration to only EC’s District Offices, an issue that has caught the attention of many interest groups and also generated a lot of agitation among various parties.

According to Dr. Quaicoe, the EC is concerned about citizens’ participation in elections, given that is exactly its mandate, which is to produce a credible register to facilitate elections.

Speaking in Accra, Dr. Quaicoo explained that the EC’s mandate is two fold.

”Our mandate is to ensure that the voters are captured as well as ensuring the sanctity of the voters’ register”.

EC’s Director of Electoral Services admits that not all eligible voters can be captured at this time.

However, the use of the district facility he admits, is to minimize errors and avoid double registration.

”You will agree with me that the closer the registration centers are to the electoral areas, the greater the anomaly,” Dr. Quaicoe asserts.
