ECOWAS concerned about slow pace of Covid-19 Vaccination in Africa

President of the ECOWAS COMMISSION, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou has condemned the low vaccination rate in Africa.

He said statistics show that barely 6% have received at least one dose and about 3% have been fully vaccinated, despite the significant resources deployed by the Member States for the acquisition of vaccines.

In his end-of-year message, he called on member states to continue with efforts to strengthen control mechanisms against Covid-19 in a context of risk of a new wave of the pandemic with the emergence of OMICRON. Mr. Kassi Brou also called for the revitalization of the regional vaccine and drug production program.

He said two years after its emergence, the scourge of COVID does not spare any sector of economic, financial, and social life.

The coronavirus disease continues to claim many victims in the world. As of 28th December 2021, the Region had 719,222 registered cases, with 10,508 deaths and 42,483 active cases. While expressing solidarity with those affected by COVID.
