GBC News can confirm that the Ejura Police Station in the Ashanti region has been burnt.

Information gathered so far indicates that the arson was caused by a group of agitated residents of the town this morning following an alleged disagreement with the Police over a request for the body of a supposed suspect who allegedly died while in lawful custody.

Our multiple sources have confirmed that, so far, substantial damage has been caused to the Police premises as the misunderstanding turned chaotic while a deployment of the local Fire Service to douse the fire could not immediately attend to it as a result of the exchange of gunfire.

The source said the entire Police Station, located within the Ejura township along the high street, has been raised down, and official and private vehicles destroyed in addition to damage to part of the recently built EJURA Police Divisional Headquarters.

It took a swift intervention by the Military to stop the rampaging residents in their tracks from completely destroying the Divisional Headquarters.
