Ekumfi Otuam Chief asks for body of late President Mills

By: Kingsley Nana Buadu

The Chief of Ekumfi Otuam Nana Ewusi Kwansah and the Otuam family of the late president, Prof. John Evans Atta Mills have expressed their displeasure concerning the lack of recognition by the organisers of the 10th anniversary commemoration of the passing of the late president. To them, the action is disrespectful and uncustomary.

They have further learnt from the media the tempering of the tomb of their son and are therefore demanding the body of the late president right after the 10th anniversary commemoration is over to be brought home for a befitting burial.Ekumfi Otuam in the Central Region is the maternal home of the late President, Prof. Mills. It would be recalled that, after the death of the late president in 2012, government, organisations and individuals visited the town and have many promises to the family and the town.Few of these promises have been redeemed and others are still outstanding. The promise of constructing the about 20 miles road from Esuahyia to Ekumfi Otuam for instance has been partially redeemed.

Section of the road has been constructed for the people nicely whiles major portion  is  been left unattended. The promise by the then government to renovate the family house of the late president never saw the light of day and the family house has even collapsed some few months ago.Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom  promised and started the construction a Community Centre which has been left to rot because of it closeness to the sea.

One promise redeemed was the construction of the day secondary School which was named after the memory of the late president by the former president, John Drama Mahama.

This the people are grateful for but pleading for a hostel to be attached following the long distance student need to cover to school on daily basis. One other promise redeemed is the Ekumfi Fruit juice factory promised by the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

A visit to the town as preparations are advanced to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the passing of the late president, by our Central Regional correspondent Kingsley Nana Buadu indicate that, nothing is being done to mark the anniversary in the town. The Chief of the town, Nana Ewusi Kwansah, the Ebusuapanyin of the Otuam family of the late president, Nana Akyirem Acquah, and elder Joseph Nimo Acquaah, expressed their concern and displeasure about the lack of recognition, unfulfilled promises and demanded the body to be re-buried at Ekumfi Otuam, for the soul of the late president to rest in peace.
