Employment Ministry triggers, process to amend Labour Act

The Ministry for Employment and Labour Relations has begun processes for the amendment of the Labour Act 2003 (Act 651) to meet current demands at the labour market.

In this regard, the Ministry has engaged stakeholders and representatives of labour unions in Ho to deliberate on recommendations to replace some provisions in the Act.

There have been calls from the labour front on the government to review certain portions of the Labour Act that are outmoded.

The Deputy Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Bright Wireko-Brobbey in an interview with GBC News noted the Ministry has received over 60 recommendations from institutions at the labour front which are being pursued as inputs to amend the Act.

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Employers Association, Alex Frimpong expressed the hope that the exercise will bring changes to the labour market to address some challenges confronting the Ghanananaian workers.
