Government is pumping millions of dollars to carry out electrification in the five regions of the North and other regions that need the energy to process, preserve and industrialise.

The question is, what is the Energy or Power capacity to sustain the electrification process to enable the country to cover the hundred per cent electrification programme? Radio Ghana finds out from an Energy Expert, Francis Agbenyo if the current Power capacity can sustain the electrification programme.

He told George Ankrah that the electrification is in line with the government’s programme to extend Power to rural areas which started during former President Rawlings Regime. Mr Agbenyo said the Power sector is so robust and has the capacity to generate more than the country needs therefore the project is sustainable.

Mr. Agbenyo said transmission is also robust but what is important now is how to generate enough for export to the neighbouring countries. He also touched on some challenges.
