Engineering Council commences forensic investigations into collapsed building at Ofankor

The Engineering Council Ghana has announced the commencement of forensic investigations into the collapse of a three-storey building at Ofankor in Accra on Saturday, September 23, 2023.

The three-storey building which was under construction behind Ofankor Market near Asofan caved in over the weekend.

It is unclear what caused the collapse, but sources blame it on the heavy rains that occurred the day before. No casualties were reported.

One of the workers on the site noticed that the building was about to collapse and raised an alarm, allowing everyone to evacuate safely.

The Council, in a statement dated September 25, 2023 assured the publishing of critical aspects of the reports of the investigations.

Portions of the statement read: “It thus wishes to inform the public that it is working to have forensic investigations carried out on this matter in a very thorough manner. The critical outcomes of this investigation will be shared with the relevant State authorities as well as the general public together with recommendations to guide all affected parties.

The Engineering Council also wishes to assure the general public that investigations into the five building collapses that occurred between April and May this year are at various stages of investigations.

The Engineering Council will publish critical aspects of the reports of those investigations very soon for the attention of the general public.

The Engineering Council urged the public and affected persons to remain calm while it investigates the incident.

While awaiting these outcomes, the Engineering Council wishes to urge all to remain calm”.
