The Accra High Court has on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 issued a warrant authorising the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to arrest the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
The court also granted EOCO authority to search for and seize documents that may be relevant to its ongoing investigation.
EOCO applied for the warrant after telling the court that it had exhausted reasonable efforts to get the MP to appear voluntarily before investigators.
The Office also expressed concern that documents connected to the investigation could be concealed, altered or destroyed if further action was delayed.
The latest development comes one week after EOCO officers attempted to arrest Mr. Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on September 23, 2026. The incident led to a confrontation at the court premises.
EOCO later explained that the attempted arrest was part of an investigation and followed two invitations issued to the MP in February 2026.
However, Mr. Baffour Awuah has disputed EOCO’s account. He has said the investigation is linked to SIC Life Savings and Loans, a client of his former law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners.
According to the MP, after he referred EOCO’s invitations to the Clerk to Parliament, a representative of his former law firm appeared before investigators on March 4, March 18 and April 30.
He said the representative provided the information requested by EOCO, including a written statement.
Mr. Baffour Awuah has also explained that his former law firm was engaged by SIC Life Savings and Loans to recover about GH¢3.5 million invested with Equity Savings and Loans.
He said the amount, including interest, later increased to about GH¢14 million before the parties reached a settlement.
The court’s latest order now gives the anti-corruption agency legal authority to arrest the Manhyia South MP and search for and seize documents connected to the case.
