EU steps up support for Kwadaso Agric College

The European Union, EU has pledged its readiness to partner the government of Ghana to address the menace of unemployment through entrepreneurship for jobs and wealth creation.

The EU said this initiative very much relishes any opportunity that could help the realize the set objective.

The Deputy Head of Mission of the EU in Ghana, Pieter Smidt Van Gelder, gave the assurance in the Ashanti region after inspecting a Horticulture project the EU is funding at the Kwadaso Agricultural College.

The project code named ‘Archipelago’ Green Project began in October 2020 under a partnership among the European Union, the Deft University of Technology, the Holland Green Technology and being implemented by the Kwadaso Agricultural College in the Ashanti region.

The 1-year project being funded by the EU at a cost of € 500 thousand was meant to span a 12-month period but had to be reconsidered as a result of the serious negative effect of the COVID-19.

The Horticulture project involves theoretical and hands-on training of the trainees with Entrepreneurship included to empower the beneficiary trainees with marketing and business skills to source marketing opportunities for their yields.

The trip by the project partners to the Kwadaso Agric College project site involved a briefing and interaction among the players on the project progress so far after which they interacted with the students to know how well they enjoyed the training.

The delegation also visited a Weather Station built for the College to enable students to test atmospheric and soil humidity, amount of sunshine available among other food production variables.

They have toured the demonstration sites for the horticulture production for mostly exotic vegetables under irrigation.

The Project Coordinator, Samuel Dabah who shed more light on the focus of the Green project for jobs and wealth, said the support is very much timely.

The Principal of the Kwadaso Agric College, Reverend Benjamin Asante, noted that the project had boosted the training capacity of the College with entrepreneurship, and practical knowhow for regular and past students.

The Deputy Head of Mission of the European Union in Ghana, Pieter Smidt van Gelder, said the EU cherishes its partnership with the government of Ghana in creating jobs and wealth for the people.

He explained that the Kwadaso Agric College was chosen for the project based on the good reputation and the faith the partners have in it.
