The Director-General of Police in charge of Research and Planning, COP Kofi Boakye has asked the police to exhibit professionalism in the fight against crimes which according to him, have become very sophisticated.

COP Kofi Boakye made the call at a passing out ceremony of two hundred and forty-six (246) police recruits, at the Eastern Regional Police Training School, Koforidua, in the Eastern Regional capital, September 27, 2019.

He tasked them to ensure law and order and desist involving themselves in partisan politics as the country approaches next year’s general elections.

COP Kofi Boakye also cautioned Ghanaians against the use of intemperate language which is aimed at inciting people rather than addressing issues.

He urged the public to report activities of errant and corrupt police officers for action to be taken against them.

According to him acts of corruption, extortion, human rights abuses and irresponsible policing which in recent times have characterized the activities of some police officers is a major concern for the police administration hence the directive.

Acts of lawlessness, indiscipline will not be tolerated. All these acts of lawlessness; example collecting money from civilians, blatant disregard of laws, abuse of human rights, and lack of civility to the public, all conspire to whittle down the legitimacy of the Police and also reduce our respect in the eyes of the public and all these get together to reduce the trust that the public has in us and as young recruits we caution you not to indulge yourselves in these acts.” He said.

COP Kofi Boakye said the command will crack the whip to restore the public’s confidence in the Police.

The recruits went through a six month training in police and liberal subjects such as Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Criminal Investigation, Law of Evidence, Practical Police Duties Service Instructions, and Professional Child Friendly Policing among others.

They will be posted to various regions to join their colleagues to serve the nation for their post Depo training probation for 18 months.

Recruits whose performance were outstanding were presented with awards.

The overall best recruit went to General Recruit Stephen Owusu Boateng, Best Conduct recruit went to General Recruit Martin Kwadwo Dzefe, with Innking Jared picking the Best in Drill award.

The rest were Best Maskman, which was won by Alfred Adjei Owusu, Best in Physical Training went to Bethuel Baah Ntiri, while the Best in Child Friendly Policing was won by Peter Kwame Badagbor.
