A Koforidua Circuit Court in the Eastern Region has convicted a farmer to five years imprisonment for inflicting cutlass wounds on his friend over a GH₵5 worth of bread.

The convict – Richard Aku alias Dadabi was convicted on his own plea of guilty when arraigned before court and charges read to him.

The incident occurred on the evening of November 12, 2020, at Nkurakan a Community near the Eastern Regional Capital.

The facts of the matter are that the complainant Joshua Ayittey a friend to the convict bought GH₵5 worth of bread after close of work in the evening to eat at home.

However, on his way, the convict met him and his friend – Stephen at the Nkurakan roundabout as they were heading towards Etwiso suburb of Nkrukan.

The convict collected the bread from the complainant under the guise of escorting him to the house but vanished with the bread.

The complainant and his friend went to the convict’s house to look for him but he was nowhere to be found. While standing inside the house expressing their displeasure, Richard Aku suddenly emerged with a sharp cutlass and started inflicting cutlass wounds on the complainant after his friend managed to escape.

He was arrested by the youth in the area and handed over to the police. He admitted the offence in his caution statement and was charged and put before court on Monday where he pleaded guilty, therefore sentenced accordingly.

The victim has been treated and discharged.
