The Municipal Chief Executive for Anlo, Sandra Seyram Kpedor, has donated farm insecticides to farmers in Whuti following significant crop losses caused by a whitefly infestation.
The intervention followed a working visit by the MCE, accompanied by officials from the Department of Agriculture, to assess the extent of the damage and engage directly with affected farmers.
Ms Kpedor urged the farmers not to lose hope despite the losses and assured them of the Assembly’s commitment to working with the Regional Department of Agriculture to address their challenges.
“Your pain is our pain. The Assembly stands with you, and we will not leave you alone in this difficult time. We are already engaging the regional authorities to ensure you receive the needed support,” she told the farmers.
As part of the immediate response, the MCE presented a consignment of farm insecticides to help control the whitefly infestation, which farmers say has destroyed large portions of their vegetable and cash crops, threatening their livelihoods and food production.
Agriculture officials at the engagement also educated the farmers on effective pest-control measures, early detection of infestations and other practices to help prevent similar outbreaks in the future.
Ms Kpedor reiterated that agriculture remains a priority for the Anlo Municipal Assembly and pledged continued support for farmers through the provision of inputs, technical assistance and advocacy.
“We will continue to support our farmers with the right inputs, technical support, and advocacy so that Anlo can remain food secure and prosperous,” she added.
The affected farmers expressed appreciation to the MCE and the Assembly for the intervention and appealed for additional support to help them recover from their losses.
