Feasibility studies for construction of 1V1D commpleted in Kassena-Nankana Municipal

The Municipal Chief Executive for Kassena-Nankana in the Upper East Region, Williams Aduum, says as part of the government’s flagship programme of One-District-One-Factory, the Municipality have been selected by a Chinese company for the construction of a rice mill. He said processes for the acquisition of land for the project in Biu a community in the area is ongoing.

Mr. Aduum who made the revelation at the Assembly’s Second Ordinary Meeting in Navrongo said feasibility studies for the construction of dams under the One-Village-One-Dam in some selected communities have been completed.

The Communities include Kologo-Zuo, Vunania-Janania, Goo, Pindaa, Nayagnia, Nimbasinia, Manyoro, Natugnia-Saabisi. Other communities are Yua, Saboro, Gia, Pungu-Talania, Azaansi-Apelatua and Naaga-Konkongo.

On health, it was revealed that rehabilitation works on the Pindaa and Vunania CHPs Compounds are nearing completion whiles works on the DHMT block being funded by the DACF is about to commence.

Mr. Aduum said incidence of maternal deaths have reduced from 5 in 2017 to one in 2018 while infant mortality recorded zero incidents so far.

He said government has awarded contract for the construction of the Tono Water Expansion project which is expected to expand and extend water to Navrongo and its environs, Paga and the Bolgatanga Municipality.

The Municipal Chief Executive said at August 2018, the assembly has been able to collect the sum of three hundred and three thousand, eight hundred and forty-two, 303, 842, Ghana cedis out of the budgeted revenue of four hundred and thirty-three thousand, three hundred and ninety-nine Ghana cedis representing 70.11% of the annual budget.

Mr. Aduum said the inflows of District Assemblies Common Fund, DACF, not been encouraging, adding only amount of two hundred and sixty seven thousand Ghana cedis out of six hundred thousand have been received by the assembly in 2018.

He said the assembly have received sixty thousand Ghana cedis from UNICEF TO FUND THE Community Led Total Sanitation, CLTS, programme in the municipality.

Mr. Aduum noted that the concept is to ensure that they bring to the barest minimum incidence of open defecation in the area.

The MCE said inspite of the floods caused by torrential rains in the area, the municipality will still remain the food basket of the region.

He revealed that cultivated land for maize this year increased by 39% while incidence of fall army worms has been minimized. He noted that supply of inputs also saw a significant increase.

He said the government’s agricultural revolutionary programme dubbed Planting for Food and Jobs were not well managed by the Municipal MOFA Directorate.

He saied this is particularly in respect of the issuance of the coupons. According to the MCE, the MOFA directorate did not comply with the assembly’s directive concerning the issuance of the coupons.

Stressing the MOFA were told to work with various zonal council’s to ensure the smooth implementation of the programme but the MOFA directorate declined.

The MCE reiterated Government’s resolve to ensure that every community is hooked onto the National Grid.

Mr. Aduum said for the face three of the rural electrification project, communities earmarked to be hooked onto the National grid include Namolo-Pogo, Bundenia, Sonnakura-Begi, Wusungu, Nyangua, Amuntaga-Nyogsi, Tekura-Afunia, Telania among other communities in the area.

He noted that three hundred and fifty youth has been recruited under the Nations Builders Corps, NABCO, to work in the municipality.
