The Ashanti Regional Police Command says it will continue to appreciate public partnership in fighting crime. The Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Akwesi Akomeah-Apraku said the Police Service cannot ignore public support and participation and expect to make headway in fighting crime.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a Police Post at the Adako-Jachie Campus of the Kumasi Technical University in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The Adako-Jachie Campus of Kumasi Technical University has been in existence for about 15 years. Presently, the University has two student hostels on the campus, accommodating 700 students. In addition, about 24 families of staff of the University reside at the site.
Together with the staff and students of the Faculty of Built and Natural Resources and the Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development that have been relocated to this site, there are about 1,000 students and staff on the Adako-Jachie campus.
The new campus is bedeviled with many challenges, with key among them being the poor state of the access road from the main Kumasi- Accra road to the campus.
Criminals have taken advantage of the situation to attack students plying the route and robbing them of their personal effects. Management of the University mooted the idea to construct a Police Post on the Adako-Jachie campus to ensure security and welfare of students. This was supported by the Students Representative Council.
At a mini-durbar preceding the inauguration of the facility, the Vice Chancellor of the Kumasi Technical University, Professor Osei Wusu-Achaw solicited the assistance of the Member of Parliament for Ejisu, who double as Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. John Kumah for the tarring of all access roads at the Adako-Jachie campus of the University.
The Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Akwesi Akomeah-Apraku emphasized that security assurance in any society is a shared responsibility.
The Chief of Adako-Jachie, Nana Osei Bosomprah commended management of the University for its immense contribution to the development of the Adako-Jachie Community.
