Savings and Investment accounts are to be opened for members of the diasporan community to encourage them to invest in Ghana and Africa as a whole.

This initiative to be known as the African Sankofa Accounts, is to create a platform where the African diaspora can invest in Ghana and Africa as a whole.

This was announced at a media briefing in Accra by the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Ken Ofori Atta.

He tasked stakeholders including the Bank of Ghana and the Ghana Investment Promotion Center to ensure the smooth implementation of the initiative.

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Arts, Barbara Oteng Gyasi commended the Ministry of Finance for the initiative, which will help build a strong bond between Ghana and Africans in the Diaspora.

She advised the private sector to desist from quoting astronomical rates for goods and services patronised by diasporans.

The Ambassador of the Diasporan African Forum Mission of the African Union, Ericka Bennett called for more engagement with Diasporans who are already operating in Ghana for mutual benefit for all parties.
